“Who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
~ Esther 4:14
The question is often asked; why am I here? We sometimes think we have no purpose. We’re living in a self-imposed isolation because we believe we have nothing to offer. The world wants us to think we are not good enough, not pretty enough, not rich enough. These things are not true. We have a Savior that is enough, and he is all we need to counter the societal bias.
God has a much different perspective on us. We were created for a purpose. He knows what that purpose is even when we don’t. It is not our purpose, but his. Be mindful of Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Our hope comes from Jesus, not from the whims of societal norms.
Let’s look at Queen Esther. Despite not having been summoned by the king in thirty days, Esther mustered her courage and went before him with her request. At which point, he agreed to an audience with her. Ultimately, after a feast, he granted her request.
Esther is not the heroine of the story. Despite the name of God not being mentioned in the entire account, God was at work through Esther to accomplish his purpose.
Even when we do not see his hand or hear his voice, this does not mean he has left us alone. On the contrary, as John Piper has stated, “God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, and you may only be aware of three of them.”
Set your mind on King Jesus, stay in his Word, and focus in prayer. It is in this steadfast posture we will find the wisdom and direction we need to find God’s purpose for us.
God is the hero of your story and like Esther, perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this.
