It’s Christmas week. Most are seeking peace in some form. Peace does not come in packages or bags. It does not come from feelings or working it up. It comes in the person of Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:14 tells us: “For he himself is our peace.”
For some this is a glorious time of year with shopping and baking and preparing for family and Christmas light shows. For others it’s a glum, sad time of year as they may have lost a loved one either in recent years or long ago years; the memories of which get triggered with the excitement of the season. Some may have lost a job, and are stressing financially, some may be grieving, some may be lonely. The list is long.
This year (2023) Christmas week seems dull, glum, gloomy. The stores are not decorating as they have been in the past. No one is saying Merry Christmas, just “have a nice day” or in the south, “have a nice rest of your day” (That one is a blog post in itself), Christmas tunes are not blasting from the in-store speaker system. I have been in only two store this season where Christmas music was playing, the others have decided their everyday playlist is good enough.
This is not good enough. It is, perhaps, an example of how society is feeling about how the world is going right now and they are enjoying the Christmas season by rote. Just doing the things they’ve always done without a thought to what Christmas really means.
Christ came for such a time as this. The Prince of Peace came to give hope to a world lost in the stress and sin of being human and separated from a heavenly Father who has great love us. He came to be Immanuel (Which means God with us).
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” ~ Isaiah 7:14
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel.” ~ Matthew 1:23
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” ~ Isaiah 9:6
“And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.!” ~ Luke 2:10-12
The baby in the manger is the Savior of the world, the Wonderful Counsel who will teach us all we need for living, the Mighty God who will protect us and care for us forever, the Everlasting Father who loves us more than any human father can love and in whom we can trust forever, a Prince of Peace who brings peace where there is no peace and will walk along beside you in all your struggles ensuring you will get to the place He has for you. (Psalm 23) He is our Hope for today, tomorrow, and forever. Seek the Prince of Peace!
This is a time of year where we can help others see the truth of Christmas. Smile, share ,show Jesus to all you meet, sprinkling them with the greatest joy they will ever have. JESUS!
~Merry Christmas ~
