Do you sometimes feel alone, apart, isolated, abandoned?  I will tell you from the outset that you are not alone. God has the solution. He has always had it and has always demonstrated it.

Let’s look at the Israelites in Numbers 9. In verses 15-23 we see the Israelites being guiding by a loving God. We know they had their share of problems with obedience to the many laws and requirements placed on them. So do we, if it weren’t for the grace of Jesus and His sacrifice for our sins we would fall into more disobedience. More on that later.

The Israelites journey to the promised land is much like our sanctification journey. Sometimes we must carry the burden placed upon us and sometimes God carries it for us. When we are required to carry the burden, God does not abandon us.  He is always with us. We see this demonstrate clearly in the Old Testament (Numbers 9:15-23).

The pillar of cloud that hovered over the tabernacle or tent of meeting,

demonstrated His presence (physical appearance), a theophany.  The cloud was seen as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire at night. The presence of God was always with them and visible to them.  They did not have to fear being alone as they could clearly see that God was with them leading, guiding, and protecting then on all sides. He is here with us today in much the same way.

If you are a believer, in Jesus Christ, you have the Holy Spirit of God living in you. He is our helper. He leads, guides and teaches us all things that pertain the Christ, (John 14:26)

In your loneliness and even fear do you sometimes wonder what is the next step?  I do. We can know. Just as the Israelites knew what to do by looking to the cloud. We can look to the presence of God too. The Israelites were to stay in place until the cloud lifted, then they could move on to the next encampment the Lord had for them.  Often the Lord would remain in a particular place for days or weeks even months. At other times the cloud would lift after a day or a week. The Israelites would stay until the cloud lifted and they knew they were to move on.

In the same way, we can know what our next steps. Look to Jesus the author and perfector of our faith. Though we may not see where He is headed; we will know we can trust the Shepherd and follow where He leads.

Colossians 3:2 tells us: “Set your minds on thigs above, not on earthly things.”

In Matthew 28 :20 Jesus promised: “I am with you always even to the end of the age.”  He also tells us in Hebrews 13:5: “I will not leave you or abandon you.”

You are not alone. You have a Savior who loves you. Look to Jesus. Pray, Stay in His Word. Remain there as along as He tells you to.  He will tell you when it’s time to move.

  1. Sometimes we ask for a sign for guidance, then ignore it or deny it because it doesn’t fit what we want. He knows the beginning from the end, and we can trust His will over our own ….every time!
