Is it possible for your sorrow to be turned into joy? Yes. I have had the privilege of spending time recently with some ladies who are suffering. Their hearts are aching, their minds depressed. I have walked among them, and we have prayed together and cried together. We have studied Scripture together. Jesus tells us our sorrow can be turned into joy. These ladies are living proof that there is peace and joy through sorrow.
Our world is a troubled place. There are wars, violence, threats to our safety, financial instability, dysregulated relationships, sickness and death.; Just to name a few circumstances.
These are the things that make us turn inward and seek to shut out the world and its trouble. We can’t do that. We must live in our circumstances, whatever they may be. God wants us the live through our circumstances; not hide from them. Even during the dark times, we must walk through to the other side. That is where we will find peace. Yes, there is another side and that is where Jesus will walk us to. Psalm 23 tells us He will walk beside us through the deepest, darkest valley or the valley of the shadow of death. He us always with us even when it is so dark that we can’t see Him. He is there,
In John 16:33 Jesus told His disciples: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Jesus was going to His Father in heaven, and they would not see Him for a little while. This made them sad, but He would not leave them alone. He would send a Helper to them; namely the Holy Spirit to guide them and teach them.
Jesus wanted them to have peace in the midst of their storm and He wants you to have peace in yours. Peace that can only come through Him. Just like a mother in labor has much pain and distress, so will we have pain in distress in the world, but the pain of childbirth is transformed into joy at the birth of the child. In the same way Jesus transforms our sorrow and pain into joy and peace as we rust Him with the circumstances of our lives because He has overcome the world.
As believers, we know the end of the story and no matter what happens in our world, our nation, our community or our personal lives, Jesus wins! He has written the story. He is the hero of the story. He is the victor!
King Jesus has overcome the world so we can live in peace and joy today. Spend time in His Word and prayer and be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)
Live victoriously in Jesus!
